“Do you often confuse people by answering them in movie quotes during every day conversation? Then this show is for you. Just when you think no one else knows your favorite movie like you do, Jade and Jason put you to shame! Plentiful sarcasm, occasional inappropriateness, and nonsensical banter combine with little known facts, nostalgic anecdotes, and thoughtful insights to make even the most avid movie buffs wish they were there in the studio having a beer with us.”-Cece (@ceara.elise)
#Hindsighters, it’s been quite the first season. It’s not every day that two people befriend one another, create a show, and weave pure gold out of their mutual, brusque cynicism. But if anyone could do it, it would be Darth Jader and Jason Melon Farming Mitchell.
Recurring guest, Meg, put it best: “What better way to remember your childhood than to force your opinions about your favorite old movies on unsuspecting listeners?”
Your favorite podcasters did just that and so much more during the premier season of Hindsight is Horrifying, the most famous podcast of all time. Darth and Jason have thoroughly enjoyed discussing some of their favorite movies and TV shows from their childhoods; the conversation didn’t always stay on target, but fun was had by all regardless. Except for Michele; Halloweentown was an absolute dumpster fire.
Other guests chose superior movies and subsequently escaped the humiliation of being utterly shamed on the podcast. Self-appointed “super fan” Katie states, “As the number one fan, being on the podcast is such an experience. It’s sitting around and drinking with your friends while watching a beloved movie. This is my first podcast and I’m hooked! Movies, beer, and some funny people? What’s not to love?”
Young Adam, as he is affectionately known by #Hindsighters and bitterly known by Adam Brown, also seems to enjoy contributing to the most off-kilter podcast that slight inebriation has to offer. “I have loved being a guest on this show! Nothing beats drinking a cold one and talking about a movie I love. You never know where the conversation is going to go with the goofy tangents, but the film is also discussed from beginning to end since it is played in the studio.”
Darth and Jason plead utterly guilty (without a hint of sincere remorse) for their lack of direction with the podcast conversation, but the real #Hindsighters are here for it. Your ridiculous podcasters love and appreciate you all, and greatly admire your ability to withstand their ill-guided discussions. Jason doesn’t even listen to the episodes after recording, so draw your own conclusions about how much he and Darth appreciate anyone who can bear to sit through their show. Especially the Shivers episode.
In all honesty, #Hindsighters, it’s been an unexpectedly charmed first season. When Darth and Jason first sat down to discuss Rocko’s Modern Life in the studio, neither of them ever suspected that their silly concept for a podcast would ever become an international success, especially amongst the badass Australian demographic. Even more unexpected was the enthusiasm of the unsuspecting (though hardly innocent) guests of #HIH. Darth and Jason were perfectly content to lure their friends in for a single episode, scar them for life, and send them on their sullied way, but a few of these fools have actually come back to the show multiple times. OF THEIR OWN ACCORD. Some…are even competing for most appearances.
That’s not to say that #HIH doesn’t get plenty weird at times. Your favorite podcasters suffer from severe conversational ADD, and the humor not only gets dark, but occasionally downright scandalous.
“If you love to reminisce about classic movies, then your Hindsight May Be Horrifying too…From Shakespeare to Shivers…Darth Jader and Jason know how to pick ‘em. No topic is off limits as they dissect your favorite oldie but goody. Before you listen and glimpse the twisted minds of these two (and their guests) be sure to alert your therapist….”-Adam (I’m listening to HIH as I type this) Brown
Darth and Jason would be lying if they said they preferred their podcast any other way. So here’s to Season 2, #Hindsighters. Raise your Variant beer to the sky and pray, because it’s about to get bigger, better…and so much stranger.
